What you suspect is just plain wrong, I have shot several weddings using two continously running cameras. GoPro isn't the same quality I'd suggest, but is cheaper and has another feature.that when OP is fed-up with 3D, he has a 2-camera set-up for all those biking/sports/Fun-events he might want to cover. We are about to find out if OP really can combine two separate camcorder files to make one 3D stream, but I suspect that wihtout clever (that means Expensive IMHO), software he will need to have a sync-cable so the cameras are "Master-Slave" - this appears to be how GoPro get their 3D set-up to work. Indeed from discussion about syncing Audio there is a likelhood the error will drift even over a relatively short "take". Glt with the greatest respect, you well-know that "staring at the same time" cannot synchronise the frames and there is a definate likelyhood there will be a time-shift which I suspect will mess up the output to the TV, which you describe so elegantly. Anything else would require each track to be rescaled to 1920 x 1080 first and the results will not be very good. It does however require the OP to have produced two 1920 x 1080 videos. If the OP started the two cameras recording at the same time and ran them continously then this is no different to using two camera editing, all you have to do is synchronise the two clips just once (normally using a clapper board) but any event you can clearly see in both sequences can be used to align the two tracks.
